Relieved...

Well I have less homework tha I thought I had.

Turns out one of the papers I have is due in a week or so. I will put it off since I am very very tired. From Sunday night to Thursday night I've been constantly working on my speech and the paper that goes along with the speech. I've never really had a chance to enjoy my vacation. In addition, I've had this horrible cold which still lingers and in addition with my allergies it creates this excruciatingly painful feeling in my right arm.

Thursday night Molly came back. She's been sick from Mountain Dew so together we form this ill couple.

I think today I am going to pack all my stuff. I had some though provoking material to tell you, but I am too tired to do anything about it.

I'm thinking of Linuxing my computer at school and running Windows 98 on top of it via VMware. Message me if you have any strong opinions for or against this.

U of I Reception

So I went to this reception for accepted students for the U of I. It was funny. Everyone except three people were Engineers from Allen Hall.

After the recpetion David Kam, Jawed and Matt's Script Archive and I all were weearing 3Dfx shirts (everyone besides me wore them during the reception). We (and Stefan) decided to go to the Mall of America (BFM10K) and do "like stuff." Among those was walking into Ambercrombie and Fitch and making fun of the people who shopped there and the clothes that they sold. Everyone in the store gave us looks for our obnoxiousness.

Dude, I am like so back.

Okay, the trip back was fine. Took a lot longer than I'd have liked, but that's just me. Spent less than I expected I would too.

I've found the solution to my relationship problems... well Ryan Hayle did. I think Molly will get it and maybe some of my friends from UI. In fact if you are not in the subset of my friends that consists of the union of Molly and my friends from Allen Hall, just don't click on the link, you probably wouldn't figure out what the problem is.

I already miss Caroline and Mike and Neal... serves me right for hanging with them so much.

Spring Break

BTW, if you are wondering when I'll be back for spring break. I leave Friday at night for MSP from MDW (cutting my ticket cost down by 66%). I'll be there until the 21st. If you want even more details, I can give them to you. Warning. An irate Matt Wright who wrote some books on Perl is driving up to Minnesota... possibly with the intent to run me over.

Archive fixed.

I was annoyed at my journal archive's little quirks, so I fixed them. Currently I am annoyed with my journal system in general and am going to be writing a new one. The new one will use a more efficient algorithm that decides which entries to display and which ones to not display. I think I will also lower the bytes displayed, but I'm not quite sure yet.

I'm unusually busy this week. I'm currently hanging out at DCL doing all my homework here, because it's a good environment. (I can see how Peter lived at CMU's computer lab). This week I've got a few philosophy readings to do. I've got to write up my physics prelab. I have to read and do some homework for CS 173. I have to read up on my Java. I have some math. I also have to do some research for SpCom. I suppose it isn't that much, but I have to work on top of that (for the Inquiry page, Chickscope and MedRx). I also am doing the guy at coolinfo.com a favor, and my temple's web site needs some tweaks. Then there is my own web work, which will never see the light of day in the near future. It'll be fun combatting all this. Just about as fun as talking to someone who has a retractable metal rod in her mouth that she uses to poke peoples eyes out.

Unforgivable...

Saturday was a very packed day. Woke up after a rough sleep (noisy roommate entering and exiting the room... loudly) at around 6:22. Sat in my chair until 7AM or so and then got ready, ate and was taken to Kenny Gym Annex. We raced again with a lower incline and our car flipped over on the incline. It was a fun race though. Next year should be fun as well.

Studied in DCL for a while that day (like I am studying in DCL now, because that's where all Math/CS majors are when they aren't in their room according to Jack). After studying I went to see one of Caroline's friends play at Area 51 (the EOH entertainment tent). I got cold and hungry so I ate and then came back to Allen Hall.

I went with some hallmates to a place called Vertical Planes to do some wall climbing. It was very entertaining. I can climb the easy wall, but my grip didn't feel strong enough on the harder walls. Especially the ones with tiny rock fragments on to which to grab (umm... I hate prepositions).

Came back, and almost all my friends were gone to the Monster Truck thing at Assembly Hall, except Caroline who opted out because her stomach was playing tricks on her. We decided to watch Depeche Mode videos (at least a few) and then go eat dinner at 10. We ended up going to get dinner at 11. Note: It's much easier to find dinner if you set out around 10PM, because everything closes at 11PM. We walked around campus (witnessing drunk people too) until we came back to Garcias (which is next to Allen Hall). We ate there. The pizza there is good I guess. We came back to Allen and I intended on going to sleep. Well I decided not too... I mean two people playing an intense game of Street Fighter is not a thing you can sleep through. I ended up hanging with Jawed, Caroline, Kristine, Eric and an irate Matt Wright.

I read from Matt's book before he came. Well the excerpt of how he got into PERL and CGI and best of all U of I. We ended up doing a lot of things that were very childish, but funny. We made fun of everyone including ourselves. We also ended up pranking my roommate. We called him so much, just as a joke. Well anyway, we finally called things quits around after 4 or 4:30 and dispersed. We even all entered my room to face an angry Jack. Then Caroline and I went downstairs and talked about roommates for a while. She's had her bad share.

Judgement occurs. I go to my room. Change get ready for sleep. I ask Jack to get our of my chair (politely) so I could use it. And he lays on the third degree.

"Why did you make all those phone calls?" Well I told Jack to lighten up and calm down, but he just couldn't understand prank phone calls. He says that "I know Jawa doesn't like me, and you don't like me because you are better than me." Jawa refers to Jawed. I responded in my egotistical way, "Jack, I think I'm better than a lot of people, but I don't dislike them because of it." Well basically I got the "Fuck you motherfucker" from Jack so I was like okay whatever. "And don't make fun of me on your web page." Well okay. Note Jack if you are reading, this is just a retelling of events. Well I went to sleep at around 5:30 AM (I normally wake up at 6:22AM). Jack finishes his game and says, "What you did tonight was unforgivable." He slams the door and he plops in bed. Then in 5 minutes he gets up goes to Eric's room and grabs him by the shirt and starts chewing him out. Eric tried to explain that this is waht people do that people just do stuff like prank phone calls and stuff like that. Jack didn't take it and called him a racist, etc.

Jawed told me a similar account except no grabbing of shirt.

Well think what you will of it people. Good or bad. I had fun, and everybody seemed to learn that Jack has no idea of what racism is and that he can't take a joke.

This leads me to a new topic. Racism. Jack accused two of my friends of being racist. Sure, racism can be interpreted as anything, but let's be serious. Maybe Jack knows what it is from firsthand experience, but I don't think he really does. What we did the other night was just a prank call, nothing more. It had nothing to do with making fun of him. It's not like we weren't making fun of everybody that night including our selves. The prank was to be mischievous. To revive the little childishness in all of us. Race had nothing to do with it. If it so happened that my roommate was some white kid that irked me enough to prank him, I'd have done it. Well I'm not white, so replace white with any race. You don't know racism Jack. I do. I witnessed it first hand as a little kid. People asking me about my brown skin and why I was like that. Whether I was this or that. It wasn't nearly that bad as others have had it, but that is racism Jack, not a prank call.

There is also the issue of group feeling. When I was made fun of, I knew others that were like me were made fun of. I was often made fun of in a group. Jack, you are just one person. Not all the Taiwanese people.

I've seen others accuse people of racism, prejudice, sexism, whatever you want. It's such an easy thing to accuse people of in America. Grow up people. Deal with life. Assume racism as the last motive.

I await Jack to accuse me of racism (again). I'll give him this schpiel and the countless examples of his being racist.

Ugh Humanity.

Thanks

I remember right before highschool started that I was like on a non-depression streak. I did get depressed often in Junior year and then I became somewhat normal going off and on about being depressed. Now I'm back to that, hey I'm never depressed stage again.

I found this amusing post from my CS173 professor on our news group:

Do NOT be late. THERE WILL BE NO CONFLICT-ON-CONFLICT-ON-CONFLICT MIDTERM 1 EXAM, even if World War III begins next Monday!!!

I've noticed why I change my site around a lot. The first site was all black with white text and was in haiku. It was very amusing, but had some interesting personal web site content. The next site was when I got better at design, but I never really liked it for too long. I was just getting a better feel for Photoshop. The third design was the Ultra site. That was when I first did my journal. Then there is this site. I am most proud of this site as it demonstrates most of my skills. The fact that I could spend the time getting the frames to work right and everything to flow propperly impressed me. I still think, the coolest thing about it was the frame popping. I mean, that was all me. Most of the javascript I got from looking at other people's ideas and just looked at their code or just rewrote their code to fit my needs. The frame popping was my attempt to figure out how to get every page return to the main frames. I knew it could be done and that with all of JavaScripts silly references it could be easy. So yeah, I like it a lot.

"coming soon..."
I had been planning for a few months to do a new site this summer (released by August) that would pretty much eliminate the need for frames. I've also started doing this on a prototype for Med-Rx, so I do have the knowhow on the frameless part. I will include other things though. Like the Random Sentence Generator will play a larger role. I will write a small questionaire function for the first page. I will also write a new calendar program for the first page. The journal system will be more stable as well. So that's what's to come. According to Molly and CJ who looked at my rough sketch, they think it'll look cool.
